Naturium’s Bio-Lipid Body Lotion is part of a wave of new skincare products that uses biomimetic ingredients to increase effectiveness. Simply put, biomimetic skincare incorporates ingredients that are naturally found in our bodies. The working theory is that our skin will recognize these ingredients and naturally “accept” them because it already knows how to use them. Biomimetic isn’t just a marketing buzzword – it’s scientifically backed. So, as a chronic sufferer of dry skin and psoriasis, I put Naturium’s Bio-Lipid Restoring Body Lotion to the test.
My Psoriasis Journey: Why I Needed A Lotion That Works
I’ll save you from my entire life story, but as a teenager, I was a competitive swimmer, lifeguard, and a victim of the brutal Midwestern winters. After my senior year, I noticed red patches developing on my feet and lower legs, which were constantly submerged in chlorinated water at the time. One trip to the doctor later and I was armed with tubes of steroid creams to ease my psoriasis.
Soon after, I moved to the South for college. The humidity seemed to help, but it didn’t stop me from finding occasional patches of rashes on my arms and legs. Out of prescription options, I turned to lotions in hopes of ridding myself of the rashes (spoiler alert: it didn’t work).
Nivea’s Cocoa Butter Body Lotion was the first lotion I tried – partly because it’s the lotion my mother used and because it’s a very economical option for a broke college student at $7 for a 16 ounce tub. Despite my high hopes, it only seemed to make my psoriasis worse. Over the years, I tried many different products – Sol de Janeiro’s Bum Bum Cream, Aveeno, Vaseline, Hempz – none of which made a significant difference in my psoriasis. It wasn’t until almost a decade later while meandering through the aisles of my local Target, I came across an unassuming yellow bottle of Naturium’s Bio-Lipid Restoring Body Lotion.
Naturium’s Bio-Lipid Restoring Body Lotion
Naturium advertises the Bio-Lipid Body Lotion as filled with “biomimetic emulsifying actives that mimic the lipid composition of the skin’s surface, helping replenish moisture due to the presence of triglycerides.”
The back of the bottle displays a graphic demonstrating how these actives absorb into the skin, detailing pH level (5.5 – 6.5), feel (silky), and after feel (soft and non-greasy).

Stand Out Ingredients
There are a few stand-out ingredients that make Naturium’s Bio-Lipid Restoring Lotion different from other brands:
Niacinamide
Niacinamide is common in serums and a popular ingredient due to its ability to improve skin tone, barrier strength, and fine lines. This ingredient is rarely seen in basic lotions.
Squalane
Squalane is biomimetic and mimics the skin’s own lipids, making it a great additional to barrier-repair products. This ingredient is often found in luxury and clean beauty products.
Panthenol (Pro-Vitamin B5)
Panthenol soothes irritation, supports healing, and hydrates the skin. It’s often used in derm-grade brands, making this a potent ingredient.
Moringa Oleifera Seed Oil
Rich in oleic acid, antioxidants, and vitamins. It’s less common than jojoba or argan oil and is often marketed as detoxifying in premium ranges.
Rosa Canina (Rosehip) Fruit Oil
High in linoleic acid, vitamin A, and antioxidants. It’s a popular ingredient in luxury skin repair products from brands like Trilogy and Sunday Riley, but is rarely found in body products due to the cost and oxidation risk.
Spilanthes Acmella Flower Extract
More often found in firming face creams, this is a very uncommon ingredient to find in body products. Sometimes referred to as “natural Botox” due to its ability to firm skin.
Ingredients with Potential Endocrine or Carcinogenic Concerns
While none of these ingredients are banned in the EU – which has far stricter ingredient requirements compared to the United States – there are a few products that may be associated with endocrine disruption or act as a carcinogen in high doses. These products include: Phenoxyethanol (potential endocrine disrupter), Ethylhexyglycerin (potential endocrine disrupter), and Sodium Benzoate (carcinogen concern when combined with Vitamin C).
My Experience and Honest Thoughts
My first impression of the lotion was the velvet feel that was left on my skin after use. My skin felt soft and thoroughly hydrated, but not greasy. The lack of fragrance was refreshing – I’m not a huge fan of heavily fragranced lotions, but that’s just a personal preference. After using twice a day for one month, the small red patches on my arms and legs were almost entirely healed. This product turned me into a Naturium advocate, and while I’ve bought some of their other products, the Bio-Lipid Body Lotion is my favorite by far.
Why Should You Trust Me?
This post contains an affiliate link, but with all product reviews and recommendations, I never post a link to a product I haven’t actually tried and wouldn’t recommend to a friend or family member. That’s a promise I will always maintain, and I will always provide proof that I own the product and use it regularly (or often enough to give you a review).

As you can see from the screenshot from my Amazon account, I’ve purchased Naturium’s Bio-Lipid Body Lotion 10 times, making me more than qualified to recommend this lotion.
Final Thoughts
The combination of high-quality ingredients and luxury feel to this lotion make it worth the hype. It has outperformed both expensive and drugstore lotions and I will continue to repurchase it. I’m in love with this lotion and the results it gives, so I’ll repeat myself one last time. Worth the hype? Absolutely, yes.
